Flannans Advance to Munster Final Over Clonakilty
St Flannans got off to a great with start with a goal from Nikki Kaiser within the first two minutes of the game. St Flannans had the aid of a strong breeze and took advantage by kicking over 6 points in the opening ten minutes. 2 from Orla Devitt, 3 from centre forward Aoibheann Malone and a point from Nikki Kaiser. St Flannans dominated in all positions in this opening half with Clonakilty moving an extra player back to try and curb the Ennis girls lead. With five minutes to go in the first half Nikki Kaiser scored her second goal after a great pass from full forward Lauren Tuohy. Orla Devitt got her name on the scoreboard again with a well taken point after a great run from midfield.
Clonakilty continued to pile on the pressure and finally won a 30m free in the final minute of the first half which Sinead O Donovan converted. St Flannans went in at half time with a 2.7 to 0.1 lead Clonakilty came out a much stronger team in the second half and had a goal and two points on the scoreboard in the first ten minutes.
St Flannans kept their big lead with a pointed free from Aoife Keane who was now operating at mid field. Substitute Doireann Murphy made a big impact with a goal within 5 mins of her introduction. Clonakilty dominated for the next ten minutes of the game with the wind increasing in strength. They hit over 1.5 without reply, with the 1.1. coming from full forward Sinead O Donovan. St Flannans backs were under great pressure but the move of Nikki Kaiser as an extra back and Aoife Keane to full back helped steady things. A goal from Aoibheann Malone after two great blocks from clonakilty goalkeeper Elizabeth Hayes gave flannans a six point cushion going into the last five minutes. Clonakilty then scored three unanswered points leading to a very exciting and close last few mins. St Flannans stayed strong and held out for a 3 point win. St Flannans had great performances from golakeeper Aoife O'Neill, backs Emma Neylon,Sophie Hanna, Aisling Maher, captain Orla Devitt who dominated midfield throughout the game and forwards Nikki Kaiser and Katie Malone.
