Reports Clare League Div 3 2016
Round 2
Kilrush 5-07 Doorabarefield 2-11
Referee Flan OâReilly
Kilrush Ladies footballers got their Clare League off to a flying start when they overcame a strong resurgence by Doora-Barefield in their division three opener played in Gurteen last Sunday.
Doorabarefield opened the scoring when Fiona Touhy was fouled and Amanda Mulcaire pointed the free but Kilrushâs Anne Marie Callinan goaled directly after that on five minutes gone. Touhy was back with a point of her own to bring the gap to the minimum but sustained green pressure saw Leanne OâBrien bring a great save from Doorabarefield custodian Orla Meehan. However, Aine Browne bagged Kilrushâs second goal on 10 minutes to push the visitors ahead 2-0 to 0-2. The next ten minutes were very much an ebb and flow affair but Doorbarefield were back with two quick points courtesy of Erin Hennessy (setup by Mia Hanrahan) and Fiona Touhy to bring the game to 0-4 to 2-0 for Kilrush. When the flow turned Kilrushâs way, Anne Marie Callinan pointed and this was followed up by a Linda Russell-Kelleher goal on twenty four minutes. Both Callinan and Russell were to point again in quick succession to make it 3-3 to 0-4 and an eight point margin for the westerners with two minutes to go to the break. But an obstinate Doora-Barefield in the closing minutes pointed through Mia Hanrahan, goaled through Caoimhe Hoey and pointed through Erin Hennessey bring the deficit to three points, 3-3 to 1-6 with Kilrush reeling from the Parish back-lash.
When Flan OâReilly threw-in the ball on the resumption, Linda Russell-Kelleherâs goaled signalled Kilrushâs intentions and when her captain and daughter Mikayla Kelleher goaled immediately afterwards, it was to spur on the Shamrockâs Aine Browne to a hatrick of points and another from Anne Marie Callinan to bring the score to 5-7 to 1-7 by the end of the third quarter. Mia Hanrahan did register her second point during this third quarter but the last quarter was all Doora-Barefield as they pummelled the Kilrush defence to claw-back a goal and four points before the end of the game. Orla OâReilly opened the last push with a point and the dynamic Amanda Mulcaire who was operating at full tilt, goaled and pointed in quick succession. Pushing incessantly to the last minute, Mia Hanrahan and Erinn Hennessey closed out the Doora-Barefield account for the day to bring the final score in at 5-7 to 2-11 in favour of Kilrush.
