Liscannor 4-3 to 0-12  Burren Gaels 

The North Clare derby between Liscannor and Burren Gaels in Division 1 Round 3 of the Clare League was played early in Kilfenora last Sunday. Liscannor got off to the perfect start when Siobhan Lane goaled with a low shot and replicated that when she received a beautifully lobbed ball from captain Maria Considine to goal two  minutes later. Clare minor Katie Considine added a third goal for Liscannor and her first point of the day. At the end of the first quarter Liscannor were clear at 3-1 to 0-3 for Burren Gaels, thanks to points from Lizzy Roche, Katie Connole points (1f) and Niamh Carrucan. The next half hour of play was all Blue as the Gaels held Liscannor scoreless and the tireless Connole picked off two more points and both Roche and Carrucan got their second each to bring the half-time score 0-7 to 3-1 with Burren Gaels thre points in arrears. After the restart  an excellent fast paced game continued in Burren Gaels’ favour as strong play between Amy O'Brien in the backs, Connole in mid-field and Lizzy Roche in half forwards produced four more Blue points with the impressive Roche scoring from the throw-in and three from Connole who played a great game, including one pointed free. Going into the last quarter Liscannor trailed by a point at 0-11 to 3-01 but a fantastic Liscannor performance in the last ten minutes, driven by an inspiring captain Maria Considine's dominance in midfield combined with her impeccable distribution released the indefatigable Katie Considine for her third and fourth points and substitute Cria Guerin goaled in the closing minutes. When it seemed all over for Burren Gaels, Grainne Howley was deemed to have been brought down in the box by referee Paul Hickey who awarded a penalty in the last minute. With four points between them Connole took the point and try as they might in the closing minutes of injury time, Liscannor soaked up the Blue pressure to take the game in style 4-3 to 0-12.

A very entertaining game which wasn’t determined till the last minutes of the game saw very solid performance across the board on both sides.
